Quicklime
Quicklime (CaO) is the product obtained by annealing (calcination) of calcite and dolomite at high temperature. Calcination is performed in the specially designed Maerz kilns which enable the production of high quality and high purity lime. Finished product satisfies the highest standards set by our customers as well as the law regulations.
Note
Quicklime irritates and eats out skin, mucous membranes of respiratory system and eyes. It is highly reactive with water generating high temperatures (it can cause ignition of combustible materials).
Storage in the vicinity of water, acids, fluoro, chloro, bromo and phosphorus reactive compounds, anhydrides of organic acids and nitro organic compounds should be avoided because of the possible turbulent reaction in case of contact.
Precautions
- obligatory use of protection masks, gloves, glasses that adhere tightly to the skin
- all exposed body parts should be covered with protective clothes
- do not consume water or food in the vicinity of the lime production
- in case of skin or eye contact, rinse exposed body part with excessive quantities of water and obligatory contact the physician
- in case of scattering, gather the lime into vessels and remove it from the watercourses or sewage system
- fire inside extinguish using fire extinguishers based on CO2 and/or sand, never use water
