Quicklime - dolomitic

Dolomitic quicklime is a white solid having a crystalline structure. It builds hydroxides with water i.e., dissolved in water reacts alkaline. Plasters and mortars derived from this quicklime are distinguished through high workability, firmness, plasticity and good adherence. As convertors are being used more and more and they operate on the principle of oxygen injection, dolomitic quicklime is frequently applied in the metallurgic processes as flux. The reason is the considerate fraying of the converter refractory layers which is the consequence of the speed and chemistry of the process itself. Magnesium oxide (MgO) which is a basic part of the dolomitic quicklime (CaOxMgO) reduces the slag tendency to dissolve the magnesium oxide (MgO) from the refractory layers thus extending its lifetime, not to mention the ability of the lime to remove the impurities in the process of iron production. Calcination reaction (degradation) can be described through the following equation: CaCO3 x MgCO3→CaO xMgO + 2CO2
